Caprese Salad is a cold and summery appetizer typical of Campanian cuisine, made with tomato, mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil, oregano, and fresh basil. A few quality ingredients skillfully combined create an exceptional delight in just 5 minutes!
Wash and thoroughly dry the tomatoes, then cut them into slices about 6-7 mm thick with a fine blade knife.
Arrange the tomatoes on a wooden cutting board and sprinkle with salt.
Slice the mozzarella to a thickness of 6-7 mm and pat the slices with a cotton cloth to absorb excess water.
Assemble the dish by alternating a slice of tomato, a slice of mozzarella, and a few basil leaves.
Sprinkle with a pinch of dried oregano and, if desired, a sprinkle of pepper.
Add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
Plate and serve immediately.
Excellent as an appetizer, side dish, or main course if served with slices of bread, friselle, or croutons.
