
Start preparing the apple cake by creaming the butter with the granulated sugar in a bowl until you obtain a fluffy mixture.
Add the eggs, one at a time, the milk, and the lemon zest. Mix well after each addition.
Add the sifted flour and baking powder, then mix with a spatula to combine. Also add a pinch of salt.
Peel the apples, cut them into small cubes, and add them to the batter, mixing carefully. Pour everything into a suitably buttered and floured 24-centimeter round cake pan, leveling it well with a spoon.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180° for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out dry. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before unmolding. Serve the apple cake dusted, if desired, with powdered sugar.
It can be served with powdered sugar, whipped cream, or ice cream. Store in a cool place under a glass dome for 1-2 days.
